UV-resistant films

our special films with high UV resistance

UV-resistant film

A major disadvantage of many plastics and films is their low UV stability. This limits the application areas of such products mainly to indoor or very short-term outdoor use. With normal plastic films, fading / bleaching and embrittlement can be seen after only a short period of use when used outdoors.

Therefore, many customers ask us about UV films / UV protection films that are UV resistant.

As a specialist for high-performance films, the König Film Centre offers you special films with increased UV protection. These are films with increased UV resistance that are suitable for both outdoor and indoor use. These film solutions are not to be confused with so-called sun protection films for conservatories, window panes or other glass surfaces. This is a different segment.

What are UV rays / UV protection films?

UV rays (ultraviolet rays) are invisible to the human eye and have shorter wavelengths than visible light. They are divided into three categories: UVA, UVB and UVC. The radiation is not only harmful to our skin. Many materials can also be attacked by UV radiation and fade or become brittle due to the sun's rays. Therefore, film products have been developed that can protect these materials against fading and embrittlement, so-called UV protection films. They are usually made of different UV-resistant materials. UV protective films are used in a variety of applications. Some examples are applications in the automotive industry or various outdoor applications. We offer UV protection films on rolls or cut to size. If you need a special format or size, please contact us. Our team will be happy to advise you. If you would like to convince yourself of the quality of our products or carry out product tests, you can order samples from us. In contrast to sun protection films, our UV-resistant films do not offer any significant heat or glare protection.

Properties - UV resistant films

The UV stable films are mainly characterised by their resistance and protection against UV rays (ultraviolet rays) and weather influences. As a result, UV protective films offer improved durability in outdoor applications. Depending on the plastic, the products have other important properties:

  • optical transparency (see-through).
  • mechanical strength and impact resistance.
  • resistance to elevated temperatures of up to 130 °C (continuous use temperature of 105 °C).
  • excellent dimensional stability.
  • good dielectric and insulating properties.
  • high impact resistance.
  • high light transmission.
  • suitable for cutting laser (laser) and punchable.
  • fade protection for materials and objects
  • can be equipped with self-adhesive

We offer UV protection films by the metre or cut to size. You can choose from a variety of material thicknesses from 125 μm to 1.0 mm in colourless (light-transmitting) or opal/white. We also offer UV-resistant films with various surface structures. These include matt/gloss or polished surfaces. The roll width is between 1.000 and 1.270mm, depending on the version.

We ensure that you always receive the best possible quality and durability for your application. To achieve this, we work together with experienced manufacturers. Convince yourself and order a sample of our UV protection films on rolls for initial application tests.

Types of UV protection films

Our UV protection films against fading and discolouration are available in two different materials. If you are unsure which material is the right one for your application, please contact us. Thanks to our many years of experience as film specialists, we can recommend the ideal product for you.

UV resistant PMMA (polymethyl methacrylate) film

PMMA film (better known as acrylic glass / Plexiglas) is extremely UV and weather resistant. This makes it ideal for long-term outdoor use. Due to the addition of the plastic polybutyl acrylate (PBA) as an impact modifier, these UV films are easy to cut. They can also be ideally processed with a laser. Other advantages of UV-resistant PMMA films include a good scratch resistance and an easy formability. In addition, it can be printed very well and can be used for lighting applications.

UV resistant polycarbonate film

Polycarbonate films are actually characterised by a low UV stability. However, there are some special polycarbonate films with UV stabilisers. The UV resistant film Makrofol UV 244 combines the advantages of the plastic polycarbonate with the possibility of longer outdoor use under UV exposure (radiation). In addition, it has good mechanical strength and impact resistance as well as excellent dimensional stability. In addition, polycarbonate UV protection films are resistant to temperatures from - 40 °C to 130 °C and have a continuous use temperature of 105 °C.

Processing UV protective films

UV-resistant polycarbonate films can be processed like conventional polycarbonate films. They are characterised by good and constant printability in various printing processes. Furthermore, they can be cut, punched, lasered (with restrictions), embossed and glued. The UV protection films we offer can be formed cold and hot. Depending on the surface, the UV-stable polycarbonate films are provided with a protective film.

PMMA films can be printed, cut, punched, lasered, deep-drawn, back-injected and self-adhesively finished.

No special accessories or tools are required for processing, bonding and mounting UV-resistant films.

Application / use of UV films

UV films are designed for outdoor applications with protection against UV rays (sunlight and light). In addition, there are indoor applications (indoor installation) that are exposed to strong UV radiation. Examples of these are front panels and instrument panels, as well as control systems in the interior of automobiles. The transparent protective films primarily serve as fade protection for objects or materials. Thanks to their enormous light transmission and low material thickness, the UV protection films are almost invisible to the human eye (when properly installed). This means that there are no optical disadvantages as with glass panes or other protective devices.

A UV-resistant film keeps out harmful solar radiation and still allows sunlight to pass through (high light transmission. Therefore, it protects objects effectively against fading or bleaching, as well as against discolouration by sunlight.

UV protective films in rolls, delivery time and cutting service

We store all standard products in our main warehouse in Wuppertal / Germany. There we also stock UV resistant films (UV protection films) and therefore offer fast and flexible deliveries. Thanks to a machine park specially adapted to our needs, we can offer you rolls in the desired thickness and length.
