Melinex films
As a specialist for technical films, we carry polyester films of the brand Melinex in our assortment. Melinex® is the brand name for biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET / polyester) films from the leading international manufacturer DuPont Teijin Films. Melinex films are high quality and flexible PET films with excellent chemical, electrical and thermal properties (great temperature resistance). Polyester products from Melinex® have various benefits and are an ideal solution for various industrial and electronic applications and other industries. Films made of polyester are used for various products in the automotive, electrical and electronics industries, for card applications, in the furniture industry or in the pharmaceutical and medical sectors. They are used for labels, die-cut parts, insulation parts, packaging or other industrial usages. A main application is the use of Melinex products as insulation material and electrical insulation.
König offers clear and white Melinex products from Dupont Teijin films in various thicknesses and surfaces. We supply every product as roll or rectangular sheet in the format you require. We are happy to support you with technical data sheets (from the manufacturer DuPont Teijin Film) or samples for producing prototypes or initial tests. We can also advise you on your project or send you a quotation tailored to your project. Contact us, we look forward to hearing from you!
Properties of Melinex polyester film
Melinex polyester products are characterised by a strong resistance against heat and elevated temperature as well as a high tensile strength. The chemical-resistant PET films are perfect for electrical insulation and often used as insulating materials. Melinex products have the advantage of low water absorption (0.3%) and good dielectric strength up to 180 kV/mm. We offer clear and white Melinex films. The transparent films are also available as thermostabilized version for a reduced shrinkage.
What are biaxially oriented films?
Biaxially oriented polyester film consists of the plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET or polyester). This product gets its properties from a special manufacturing process and a stretching in two directions (biaxial polyester film). Melinex® PET Films are suitable for many industrial usages, such as medial products or insulations.
Is Melinex film temperature resistant?
Melinex polyester products have a high heat resistance and can be used permanently at a temperature from - 70 °C up to 150 °C. The melting point of the temperature-resistant polyester film is very low. The melting point of the temperature-stable films is over 200 °C. The range of Melinex products from the manufacturer DuPont Teijin Film includes special thermostabilised polyester films. These transparent films impress with their reduced absorption of moisture (Melinex ST 506 and ST 507). These heat-stabilised films have increased dimensional stability and low thermal expansion (shrinkage).
Are Melinex polyester films printable?
PET films (polyethylene terephthalate) are normally not suitable for printing. The Melinex film range includes numerous crystal clear and white polyester films with special surface coatings (products with print pre-treatment). This material can be printed excellently and consistently. Common printing methods are screen printing, printing with UV-curable and solvent-based inks as well as varnishes, silver-conductive and dielectric inks. For more information on printability of Melinex® products, please contact us!
Polyester has various benefits and is a material with great price-performance ratio. Product properties of Melinex polyester films at a glance:
- Temperature resistance (temperature range from - 70 °C up to 150 °C)
- Good dielectric strength
- Printable (screen printing, UV curing lacquers, dielectric inks)
- Good ageing behaviour, no embrittlement (no plasticisers)
- Tensile strength
- Chemical resistance
- Excellent insulating properties (usage as insulating materials)
- Antistatic and self-adhering finish possible
Processing Melinex films
PET products can be processed in various ways. These include the possibility of cutting, laser cutting, punching, bending, printing or heat sealing the films. Furthermore, polyester films from Melinex® can be finished to be self-adhesive (using double-sided adhesive tapes or other adhesive products) or antistatic. Under normal conditions, crystal-clear transparent PET film shows good ageing behaviour and does not become brittle as it does not contain any plasticisers. Deformation under heat can be realised to a limited extent with polyester films. You can order Melinex® polyethylene terephthalate films in different thicknesses for various purposes (such as die-cut parts, self-adhesive labels and many more).
No special accessories are required for processing Melinex® PET films with high dielectric strength. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
Use of Melinex film
The above mentioned advantages of polyester make it an ideal material for various applications. Polyester films (PET film) from Melinex® are designed for industrial, electronic or medical applications. Possible uses are:
- Electrical insulation
- Flexible conductive tracks
- High quality labels
- Industrial moulded and die-cut parts
- Membrane keyboards
- Technical screen printing with solvent inks
- Displays
- Various industrial and heat resistant usages
- Packaging (Packaging material and general packaging purposes)
- Medical applications such as medical equipment or packaging for medical devices
- Use as insulating materials / insulation material in industrial applications
All PET films can be turned into a self-adhesive product by applying a double-sided self adhesive tape.
Our converting service
You can buy many Melinex products from Dupont Teijin films at the König Film Centre. We stock Melinex films in crystal clear, natural (matt) or white in thicknesses from 100 µm to 175 µm. We offer products from Dupont Teijin in different thicknesses and properties as roll or cut to size into sheets. The maximum roll width for Melinex® materials is 1.220 or 1.250 mm. But we can also offer to cut down a master roll into a narrow roll with a reduced roll width. We are happy to inform you about our converting capabilities, roll widths and roll limitations. We can also convert material into rectangular sheets. The sheet size can be chosen by you, considering certain limitations in sheet length and sheet width.
Due to many years of experience as a supplier of polyester films, we have extensive product know-how with films used as electrical insulation material or for medical applications. We will be happy to advise you on the right polyester material for your request. Do you need data sheets or a sample to convince yourself of the product properties? Please do not hesitate to contact us. We are looking forward to hearing from you soon.
