Polyester films

Biaxially oriented polyester films

In our product range we exclusively offer high quality, biaxially oriented polyester films (so-called BO-PET materials). A biaxially oriented polyester film is made of the plastic polyethylene terephthalate and obtains its special properties through a special stretching process in both directions (biaxial).

König Film Centre offers you the following products of the leading brands.

  • Melinex ® polyester films (Melinex from the manufacturer Dupont ®)
  • Mylar ® polyester films (Mylar comes from the manufacturer Dupont ®)
  • Folex polyester films for input systems (from the manufacturer Folex)
  • Reflex ® polyester films (from the manufacturer Transcontinental ®)

Polyester (PET) is a plastic film used for universal applications and excel by a resistance to chemical ingrediances and high temperatures (thermal stability). They are an excellent material as barrier film for insulation in electrical parts and used as a barrier film.

We offer our polyester film quality products (polyethylene terephthalate materials) in different thicknesses and properties as rolls or cut into a sheet in the desired format. We can cut every film into a rectangular sheet with the sheet size that you need.

Through many years of experience as a polyester film shop, we have built up extensive know-how. We would be happy to assist you in finding the right polyester film product for use in your application. We will send you a technical data sheet or samples for the creation of first prototypes or for first tests. Regarding the sheet size and quantity we are very flexible: we offer polyester (PET) films as rolls or as a rectangular sheet in the desired format for purchase. Please contact us, we are looking forward to your request!

Polyester films and their properties

A biaxially oriented polyester (PET) film is a high quality product characterised by enormous resistance to high temperatures. It also has a great tensile strength (extremely tensile and tear resistant), excellent chemical, mechanical and thermal stability and outstanding transparency. Polyester films are a good electrical insulator, show low moisture absorption (0.3%) and high dielectric strength up to 180 kV/mm.

Are clear polyester films printable?

Classic polyester products are not printable. We carry numerous polyester products with special coatings that make the materials eminently printable. Possible printing methods are screen printing, printing with UV-curing and solvent-based inks as well as varnishes, silver conductive and dielectric inks. For detailed information on printability with UV-curing inks, for example, please contact us!

Stability against high temperatures:

Polyester (PET) films have a high thermal stability against high temperatures and can be used permanently at temperatures from - 70 °C up to 150 °C. The melting point of the films is over 200 °C. Some polyester materials are additionally thermostabilised. These products have a high dimensional and thermal stability. A dimensionally stable plastic is less prone to moisture absorption and low thermal expansion.

Coatings for an improved scratch resistance

Polyester films usually do not have a high scratch resistance. There are special products (Reflex LT) in our range that become scratch-resistant through a special surface coating. This makes them ideal for use in applications with high mechanical stress.

Insulation properties

A polyester film is a good electrical insulation material, has low moisture absorption (0.3%) and a high dielectric strength. PET insulation films are often also called barrier film because of their excellent insulation properties and stability. They are used in various electrical devices for a perfect insulation. We offer a barrier film for insulation in different strength and properties.

Chemical resistance

Many films are not stable against chemical impact. Polyester films have a strong chemical resistance. This makes them ideally suitable for applications where the film potentially has contact to chemical ingrediants. Please test our products before use in serial production because we cannot guarantee chemical resistance to all chemical substances.

The properties of PET films at a glance:

  • Heat resistance - service temperature between -70 °C and 150 °C
  • Good printability
  • Chemical resistance
  • Coatings for improved scratch resistance
  • Insulation properties
  • great tensile strength - extremely tensile and tear resistant mechanical stability
  • outstanding transparency
  • electrical insulator
  • low moisture absorption
  • high dielectric strength up to 180 kV/mm

Processing

Polyester films can be processed in various ways. These include the possibility of cutting, die-cutting, bending, printing, heat-sealing and gluing or self-adhesive finishing of the films. Under normal conditions, PET plastic film does not become brittle as it ages because it does not contain any plasticisers. Deformation under heat is only possible to a limited extent with polyester films.

Please use special accessories or equipment to process our PET products.

Applications and areas of use

Polyester films are designed to meet the requirements of industrial use and electronic applications. Customers use our products for automotive, electrical or electronics, card, pharmaceutical, packaging or furniture industries. Possible applications of our products are:

  • Flexible conductors
  • Membrane keypads
  • Insulation of electrical parts and electrical devices (barrier film)
  • Technical screen printing with solvent inks
  • Stickers/self-adhesive labels
  • Industrial moulded and punched parts
  • Print preparation
  • Labels with chemical resistance
  • Overhead foils
  • Decorative cover films
  • Displays
  • Release films
  • Film used for various industrial applications (e.g. die-cut parts).

Our product range

As a supplier for polyester film used for various applications, we carry a wide range of flexible materials in different thicknesses and can offer you rolls or a cut to size sheet. With Melinex, Mylar, Folex and Reflex products we offer only branded materials. We catagorize our products into 3 main groups:

Polyester films specially for input systems

Technical materials are often used for the application of Membrane keypads, input systems or membrane tactile switches. For such application we offer special products from the manufacturer Folex.

Folex products are typical clear and available with various surface finishes, different thickness and properties. On a first glance we can differentiate between clear glossy films with and without scratch resistance and materials with a fine or rough texture.

New on the market is a printable polyester product with Anti-glare surface that avoids unwanted reflections on the film. Contact us to test the new Folex GO-HA film used to avoid reflections.

Clear polyester films

Clear transparent polyester (PET) films are characterised by excellent chemical, mechanical and thermal resistance. Their clear material makes them suitable for various applications such as electrical insulation. We offer various clear polyester products with different properties.

In our range we offer printable clear polyester materials. These films have a special coating that makes them ideally printable with various print systems. These products are suitable for all applications that require a print such as labels.

Another special feature of some clear PET films is their thermostability. Products such as Melinex ST 506 are thermostabilized in the production process and therefore have alower shrinkage than normal PET products.

We also offer a plastic film with a coating and thermostabilization. So there is a wide choice of materials that fit to your application. Please contact us, we are happy to recommend the right film for your project.

White / hazy PET films (Melinex 339 and Mylar A)

For some applications a white opaque film is needed to provide a high opacity. For these applications we offer the white polyester film Melinex 339. This film used for an elevated opacity also has a coating for an ideal printability on both sides as is offered in the thickness of 125 µm, 175 µm and 250 µm.

The hazy Mylar A film has no coating and therefore is ideal as economic BOPET film or applications where a coating is unwanted. The Mylar A film can ideally be used for insulation in electrical parts. Mylar A offers excellent properties for a very competitive price. Contact us for samples of the Mylar film or a quote for the Mylar A product in different strengths. We can offer Mylar A in rolls or as sheet in the required format.

Thickness / strength and colours of our PET Film products

We offer our numerous transparent polyester products and materials (plastic film made of PET) in a strength / thickness from 100 µm to 250 µm. On request, we can supply a quality PET product in thinner and thicker strengths. Due to their thin material these PET films are highly flexible. All materials are available in rolls or as sheet.

Most polyester materials are colourless and crystal clear transparent. In our range we also offer white PET products with a high opacity (Melinex® 339) or hazy polyester film (Mylar® A).
