Thanks to our extensive know-how as a specialist in technical films, we will be happy to recommend the most suitable materials for your application. We advise you during the initiation and planning phase of your project up to series production. For initial tests or the production of prototypes, we will be happy to send you samples in the desired size. For later orders, we will deliver the product to you in rectangular sheets. Please let us know the format you require and we will be happy to cut your order for you.
Properties of polycarbonate films in sheet
The material polycarbonate offers the advantage of an extreme impact strength. Impact resistance includes the ability of the plastic to absorb impact energy and mechanical stress. Polycarbonate films are impact resistant and more resilient than many other plastics.
Lexan brand polycarbonate film has a high temperature resistance from - 40 °C to 130 °C. The manufacturer Sabic confirms a continuous service temperature of 105 °C.
Processing
Polycarbonate films are characterised by their consistent and good printability in various printing processes. Polycarbonate sheets can be cut, sawn, drilled, milled and bent with standard tools and accessories without risk of breakage.
They are well suited for back injection and thermoforming. Deep drawing is a common way of drawing materials into three-dimensional shapes using negative pressure.
Application / usage
The advantage of thin sheets in 500 µm to 1 mm is their flexibility and formability combined with strong resilience and robustness. The extremely impact resistant material is appreciated as a safe solution for the production of protective coverings and machine covers. The crystal-clear sheets have a high optical quality and are therefore even used in the automotive sector. The colourless sheets can also be used as secondary glazing (behind existing glazing) to prevent glass breakage and burglary.
The colourless and crystal-clear polished films are characterised by an enormously high light transmission. Compared to thinner films in rolls, the sheet material guarantees excellent flatness.

FAQ
What are polycarbonate sheets?
Polycarbonate sheets are transparent or translucent plastic sheets made of polycarbonate, which are characterised by extreme impact resistance, temperature resistance and high light transmission. They are suitable for protective screens, displays, machine covers and burglary protection.
What material are Lexan™ polycarbonate sheets made from?
Thick polycarbonate sheets are made of highly impact-resistant thermoplastic polycarbonate (PC) with excellent temperature and chemical resistance. The manufacturer Sabic supplies the sheets in various surfaces and thicknesses.
What are the characteristics of thin polycarbonate sheets?
Thick polycarbonate sheets or thin polycarbonate plates are characterised by extreme impact resistance, high transparency, temperature resistance up to 120 °C, UV stability, good printability, formability and dimensional stability. They are scratch-resistant and more resilient than many other plastics.
What are typical applications for polycarbonate films in sheet form?
Typical applications for polycarbonate films include protective glazing, machine covers, backlit displays, displays, secondary glazing, automotive parts and burglary protection. The films are versatile and suitable for industrial, technical and decorative applications.
In what thicknesses and formats are polycarbonate sheets available?
Polycarbonate sheet films are available in thicknesses of 0.75 mm and 1 mm. Standard formats are 2050 x 1250 mm, although some special films are also available in 1220 x 1250 mm.
What are the differences between the various Lexan™ polycarbonate sheets?
Lexan™ sheets differ in terms of surface structure (high-gloss polished, velvety matt, white opal), light transmission, flame retardancy (UL 94 V0) and special applications, such as transparent displays or backlit displays.
How can polycarbonate films in sheet form be processed?
Thin polycarbonate sheets can be cut, sawn, drilled, milled, bent, back-injected and deep-drawn in exactly the same way as films. They retain their flatness, the risk of breakage is low, and they are suitable for prototypes and series production.
Are polycarbonate films in sheet form temperature-resistant?
Yes, Lexan™ polycarbonate films are permanently temperature-resistant from -40 °C to +105 °C and briefly up to +120 °C. They retain their mechanical and optical properties even at high temperatures.
Do polycarbonate films offer protection against scratches and breakage?
Yes, all polycarbonate film sheets are provided with a protection film on both sides and are extremely impact-resistant. This makes them resistant to mechanical stress, impact and glass breakage.
