PEI film for electronics and electrotechnics applications

Ultem 1000 B is a heat-stable high-performance polyetherimide (PEI) film based on Ultem resin technology. Ultem™ is an amorphous high-performance polymer that is characterised by a wide range of excellent properties. High-performance polymers are plastics that are clearly superior to standard plastics in at least one material property.

The high-quality PEI film from the manufacturer Sabic combines an enormously high heat resistance, flame protection (UL 94 V0) and low moisture absorption. It is also characterised by good dielectric properties such as a low dielectric constant. This makes the Ultem product made of polyetherimide (PEI) the ideal base material for a wide range of applications in electrical engineering and electronics. These include internal insulation against high voltage, highly heat-resistant adhesive tapes, insulation on motors, transformer windings or layer and phase insulation.

Properties of Ultem film from Sabic

Ultem 1000 films are made of polyetherimide (PEI) and are particularly heat-resistant. In addition, they have a good dimensional stability. This makes them an ideal solution for various industrial applications where the products are exposed to higher temperatures for short periods or permanently.

The manufacturer Sabic specifies a processing temperature of up to 200 degrees Celsius for the Ultem film. This makes PEI film a high-temperature film, which clearly distinguishes it from most other technical films.

Use of PEI film for 3D printers

The property of a good heat stability is also important for the application of 3D printers. Everyone who has ever printed something with a 3D printer knows the problem of print bed adhesion. Some materials do not adhere well to the print bed and therefore cannot be printed well. Temperature-stable permanent printing plates made of PEI film are a possible solution for increasing print bed adhesion. For this purpose, you can apply self-adhesive PEI film.

Ultem 1000 product listing according to the UL 94 V0 standard

Ultem 1000 B is listed according to the American flame retardant standard UL94 V0. UL 94 is a standard for flame resistance set by the American testing laboratory Underwrites Laboratories, which tests the burning properties and fire safety of plastics. V0 is the highest flammability class of plastics according to UL94.
