Valox™ FR 1 - excellent resistance to high temperatures and chemicals

PBT film with heat stability, electrical properties, environmental stability against chemicals and UV light, and flame resistance

White PBT (polybutylene) - PC film with excellent heat and chemical resistance

The thermoplastic high-performance film made of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT) and polycarbonate (PC) from SABIC IP is marketed under the trade name Valox. It has an enormous dielectric strength and is easy to process. The Valox® FR1 film for electrical insulation meets the requirements of the UL94 rating VTM-0 and has a good chemical and heat resistance. The product is used for a wide range of electrical and electronic applications.

Typical applications of the white coloured plastic film Valox are the insulation of memory drives, power supplies, bus bars, TV and other screens, PC cards and office machines. In addition, the PBT (polybutylene) - PC quality film Valox FR1 is suitable for the production of laminated insulating and shielding films and for laminated EMC/ RFI shielding. Part numbers or warnings can easily be printed directly on the films. Additional labelling as with other insulating materials is no longer necessary.

The white PBT (polybutylene) - PC film is available in thicknesses of 250 µm and 500 µm and in rolls or rectangular sheets. You can order a sample of our Valox products for tests and first prototypes.

Properties of the Valox FR1 film from the manufacturer Sabic

The product properties of the film include an excellent chemical resistance and is stable against elevated temperatures. It also has an excellent dielectric strength and low moisture absorption. In addition, Valox FR1 has excellent electrical properties combined with exceptional processability and a shiny surface quality. It has an excellent resilience to elevated temperatures. The Valox PBT (polybutylene) - PC film with a UL94 V0 listing meets increased fire protection requirements for demanding applications in electrical engineering and electronics. In addition, it is possible to print Valox FR1 films. This makes these products interesting for an industrial use.

Temperature resistance of Valox FR1 film

The quality film Valox FR1 from the manufacturer Sabic, is characterised above all by its enormous resistance to high temperatures. This is due to the mixture of polycarbonate and polybutylene terephthalate. This makes the PBT (polybutylene) - PC film a high-temperature film, which clearly distinguishes itself from most other technical films. Valox FR1 has a classification as heat resistant according to VTM-0.

Printability of Valox FR1 film

Valox plastic films can be printed on the front side, but are generally also suitable for backprint applications. Many printing techniques can be used including screen-printing, digital printing, sublimation printing, offset printing, and flexographic printing. Many inks contain aggressive organic solvents that promote adhesion to the film but may contribute to film failure if not removed before further fabrication. Therefore it is suggested to thoroughly dry all inks after printing (preferably at elevated temperatures) to remove all solvents.

Valox FR1 Flammability - Flame retardant according to UL94

The most widely accepted flame retardant performance standards for plastic materials are UL94 ratings. These are intended to identify a material´s ability to extinguish a flame, once ignited. Several ratings can be applied based on the rate of burning, time to extinguish, ability to resist dripping, and on whether the drips are burning. Each material tested may receive several ratings

based on color and/or thickness. When specifying a material for an application, the UL rating should be applicable for the thinnest wall section in the plastic part. The UL rating should always be reported with the thickness: just reporting the UL rating without mentioning thickness is insufficient. In addition, Valox FR1 PBT (polybutylene) - PC film has good thermal resistance (VTM-0 rating). This makes the Valox FR1 film an ideal product for a wide range of applications, for example in the electrical industry.
