Screen printing films

our technical films for screen printing technologies

Our screen printing films

Technical films are mainly used as components for industrial applications. In the processing of the film for the production of components, the printing of the films is a central component. Screen printing is the most important and most widely used printing process.

As a supplier of screen printing films, our product portfolio includes printable films made of a wide variety of materials:

  • Polycarbonate film.
  • PMMA film.
  • Polyester films (PET).
  • PBT films.
  • PEI films.

Depending on the material, our printing films have many other properties that hardly any other printing medium can offer. Polycarbonate and polyester films, for example, can be used at high temperatures. PMMA films, on the other hand, are particularly UV-stable and therefore suitable for outdoor use.

Printability is a decisive factor for the use of technical films. Through individual printed images and motifs and multiple colours, the processor achieves a unique and high-quality design of the components. Screen printing allows the technical films to be used, for example, as front foils, durable labels or keyboard foils. In addition, thanks to excellent printing results, there are also a multitude of possible applications in advertising technology and other industries.

For this purpose, as a specialist for screen printing films, we offer you samples of our films in addition to our extensive expertise. This allows you to carry out initial tests or produce prototypes. Benefit from our extensive experience with printing films of the highest quality. As a specialist for films, we offer you a wide range of technical film solutions. You can order screen printing films cut to your desired size or in rolls. In our range you will find films with different surfaces from matt to glossy. As a supplier of screen printing films, we also offer a wide range of material thicknesses for almost every application.

Screen printing and its properties

Along with offset printing, letterpress and gravure printing, screen printing is one of the so-called through-printing processes. In recent years, digital printing and direct printing have also been increasingly used.

The history of screen printing

At the beginning of the 20th century, the screen printing process gained importance in the USA for the production of signs and posters.

At that time, expensive silk was still used to make the screens. With the development of nylon thread, screen printing became cheaper and more important. With the additional development of modern stencil mesh, powerful inks as well as automated printer models, screen printing became more and more established. Today, screen printing is used and appreciated worldwide as a reliable, robust, colour-fast, precise and flexible printing process. Especially in areas such as advertising technology, direct mail or industry, screen printing is an ideal solution for colour printing.

How does screen printing work? The screen printing process:

Screen printing is a printing process that has been established for many years and is very popular worldwide. Here, the printing ink is pressed onto the material with a rubber squeegee through a woven stencil or a fine-mesh screen (screen printing frame). The screen printing process is therefore also called through-printing. Drying solvent-based inks are used and appropriate accessories (screen printing frames and other accessories) are used.

What are the advantages of screen printing?

Screen printing can be used to print on a wide variety of materials such as special films, textiles, plastics, metal or glass in the highest quality. This makes screen printing probably the most versatile printing technology and makes it a real all-rounder in the field of colour printing.

One advantage of screen printing is that the ink application can be modified by choosing different fabrics. Depending on the application, different ink layer thicknesses and covering forces can be implemented and excellent printing results can be achieved.

Another special advantage of the screen printing process is the colour-fast appearance of the print. Abrasion-resistant print layers are also possible.

Disadvantages of screen printing:

Screen printing is a costly process compared to other printing processes and is particularly suitable for large print runs. Small print runs are not practical for screen printing. Printing costs increase with each ink used. In practice, screen printing is therefore only used for simple designs with few colours.

Due to the high ink layer densities, appropriate drying times and procedures must also be taken into account.

Compared to other printing processes such as digital printing, the printing speed is relatively low. For this reason, the screen printing process is particularly suitable for industry as well as advertising technology or for the use of printing films.

Advice for printing on screen printing films

There are many recommendations and tips for printing on technical films. As a specialist for technical films, we have in-depth know-how and will be happy to advise you. We look forward to your enquiry.

Many printing inks contain aggressive organic solvents that contribute to adhesion to the film. However, if not processed properly, it can also damage the film. For example, you should ensure that solvents are completely volatilised before further processing of the film. All inks should therefore be allowed to dry thoroughly after printing and preferably at elevated temperatures. UV-curable inks should be such that they can dry and cure completely in accordance with your requirements.

In addition, the film should be grounded to prevent static build-up and to ensure to stay free of dust. Always keep the press and its surroundings free of dust and smoke. Work with as little contact as possible so that the inks do not smear.

For best results and excellent print quality as well as the use of the right screen printing inks and ink systems, we will be happy to advise you. We are supported by the application technology of the film manufacturers.
