Weatherproof film for outdoor use
As a specialist for high-performance films, the König Film Centre offers you an extensive range of special films. This also includes coloured as well as weather-resistant films that are used for outdoor applications.
The challenge with such films is that they must have the properties of normal films, be easy to process and at the same time be weatherproof. A major disadvantage of many plastics and films is their low UV stability. This essentially limits the application areas of such products to indoor use or, at most, a very short-term outdoor use. Conventional plastic films quickly become brittle or bleach in outdoor areas, which stands in the way of long-term use. Our weatherproof films impress with their extremely high quality and offer an excellent price-performance ratio. In addition to rolls, you can also order rectangular sheets in your desired dimensions.
Application for weather resistant film
Weather resistant films are mainly made for an outdoor usage. Typical applications include labels, industrial signs, hard-wearing front films, control elements that are used outdoors. Stickers are also no problem if the films are made self-adhesive with a suitable adhesive for outdoor applications. In addition, there are indoor applications that are exposed to strong UV radiation. Examples are panels, displays and instrument panels, as well as control systems in the interior of cars. The films can also be used as a protective film for sensitive surfaces.
Factors affecting outdoor films
Various factors affect films or plastics in outdoor applications. The two most significant influences are as follows:
High temperatures
Depending on the regional use of the films, the temperatures differ enormously. For example, the temperature influences can increase enormously in southern countries or in countries with strong sunlight.
We offer special films with a particular stability and resistance to high temperatures. These film solutions are characterised by a very good continuous service temperature. In addition, they can withstand particularly high temperature influences in the short term and are thus suitable for use in demanding application areas.
UV radiation
Ultraviolet rays (called UV rays for short) are invisible to the human eye and have shorter wavelengths than visible light. They are harmful to human skin, but also attack plastics and films. These fade when exposed to sunlight and become brittle.
We offer special films for outdoor use that are protected against fading and embrittlement.
Properties of weatherproof films:
Weatherproof films are characterised above all by their temperature resistance, protection against UV rays and other weathering influences. They therefore have an improved outdoor durability. Depending on the material, the products have the following characteristics:
- Mechanical strength and impact resistance.
- Optical transparency (see-through).
- Temperature resistance up to 130 °C (permanently 105 °C).
- Good dielectric and insulating properties.
- Excellent dimensional stability.
- Suitable for cutting (laser) and die-cutting.
- Good printability (screen and digital printing).
- Can be made self-adhesive
- Different surfaces (matt, gloss and more)
- Available colourless or in the colour white (opal)
- All our high-performance films are available from us as rolls or rectangular sheets in the required size and format.

Our weather-resistant films for outdoor use
Depending on the application and requirements, we can recommend suitable films. If you are unsure which material is the right one for your application, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thanks to our many years of experience as plastic film specialists and the support of manufacturers' technicians, we can recommend the ideal product for you. In our range you will find two types of film especially suitable for outdoor use.
The following products are often used for outdoor applications with weatherproof film properties:
PMMA film
High-quality PMMA film (also known to many as acrylic glass / Plexiglas) is extremely UV and weather resistant. This makes it ideal for long-term outdoor use. Other advantages of PMMA films include an increased scratch resistance and good formability. In addition, it can be printed on very well and can be used for lighting applications. By adding the plastic PBA as an impact modifier, Plexiglas films are flexible and can easily be cut on a laser.
Polycarbonate film
Normally, polycarbonate films have only a low UV stability. However, there are special films that are equipped with stabilisers. This film combines the advantages of the plastic polycarbonate with the possibility of outdoor use under UV exposure. It has a high mechanical strength and impact resistance. In addition, Makrofol UV 244 can be used at - 40 °C to 130 °C and permanently at 105 °C. It thus offers optimum conditions for outdoor applications. It thus offers optimum conditions for outdoor applications.
We also offer tear-resistant polyester film in different variants. Depending on the application, these products can also be used outdoors. One example are weatherproof labels for long-term applications. We will be happy to advise you and recommend a suitable film solution for your purpose. All films suitable for outdoor use are available from us in rolls or by the metre, as well as directly cut to size in a rectangular format of your desired dimensions.
Processing weatherproof films
Basically, weatherproof films do not differ from conventional films. The polycarbonate film mentioned can be processed like other PC films. In addition, it has a good and constant printability in various printing processes such as digital printing. Furthermore, it can be punched, cut, formed, deep-drawn, embossed and glued.
The Plexiglas films made of PMMA can be excellently printed, cut, punched, lasered, deep-drawn, back-moulded and self-adhesively finished.
Special tools and / or accessories are required for the processing, bonding and installation of our films for outdoor use. You can print on all weatherproof films.
Delivery time and cutting service
As a supplier of technical films, we offer a very extensive range of different film types. We have many years of experience and work with the leading manufacturers in the technical films sector. Therefore, we only offer high-quality branded products. We ship all standard products from our warehouse in Wuppertal / Germany. We deliver all products in stock within a few working days.
