The new polycarbonate film Makrofol EC 1-1 with polished surface from Covestro is partially bio-based and thus a sustainable alternative to traditional materials. More than 50 % of the carbon content of this material is obtained from plant biomass. Unlike standard films, which are produced on a petrochemical basis, the clear film Makrofol EC replaces some of the oil-based raw materials used with plant-based ones. Since fewer fossil raw materials are used to produce the film, its carbon footprint can be reduced by about 20 %.

With the polycarbonate film Makrofol® EC 1-1 our customers benefit from a more sustainable alternative that offers comparable or better properties than conventional polycarbonate films, such as improved chemical and weather resistance. The film also has excellent mechanical properties and a high impact strength as well as a high abrasion resistance and surface hardness and very good optical properties. This makes it the ideal film for OEMs and designers who want or need to use sustainable alternatives to traditional materials for their applications.

Makrofol® EC films can be processed by printing, thermo- and high pressure forming (HPF), coating (hardcoat, adhesive), cutting and lamination. Typical application areas are graphics applications such as labels, tags or overlays, electrical/electronics applications, packaging and the automotive industry for speedometer, dials or decorated trim parts.
